CRA was one of the key sponsors for the 2012 Taste of Hampton Roads, a sold-out event attended by an estimated 1,000 people, at the Norfolk Waterside Marriott on March 6.

Thirty-four Hampton Roads restaurants and catering companies shared their specialties for taste testing and as entries for numerous competitions including Iron Chef of the Year.

Consumer Recovery Associates (CRA) announced today that the company latest community service endeavors include sponsoring two teams for the Virginia Beach Little League and a Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia fundraiser.

For the Virginia Beach Little League, CRA bought team uniforms and equipment as well as paying league fees for the 11-12 year old Major League White Sox team and the 7-8 year old Coach Pitch Mets. This season, CRA staffers also are donating their time as Little League volunteers. CEO James Fox coaches a league team, and General Manager Paul Glocker is both a Board Director and a team coach.

For the FoodBank of Southeastern Virginia, CRA was a culinary sponsor for the 22nd annual Taste of Hampton Roads, the Foodbank’s major fundraiser, held in late March. CRA Managers Shannon Dodge and Sara Kichin represented the company at the event, where hundreds of area residents tasted dishes prepared by over 30 Hampton Roads restaurants. The Foodbank raised enough funds from the event to provide meals for over 350,000 people for a year.

“Last year CRA doubled in size, something we’ve been able to do since our inception in 2004,” said Kalin Scott, CRA president. “We added more employees, included 20 additional people in our South Carolina call center. With the addition of more personnel, we can provide even better service to consumers and our clients,” he added.

Founded by CEO James Fox in 2004, the company opened its first office in Virginia Beach that year and soon after opened a second location in Greenville, SC.
With CRA’s donation and those of countless others, the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society exceeded its goal, raising $1,027,000 thru the Light the Night® fundraiser. According to the organization, the donations will be used to help find a cure for deadly blood cancers that include leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease, and myeloma.

“All too often we hear that someone we know is suffering from leukemia, lymphoma or another blood cancer,” said Kalin Scott, CRA’s President. “Donating to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society is never a difficult decision. Since blood cancers kill nearly 148 people each day or more than six people an hour, it’s critical that we find a cure.”

CRA holds a firm belief in the importance of giving back to the community. This commitment drives the company’s contributions to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and other non-profits such as the Muscular Dystrophy Association, Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, the Salvation Army, LifeNet Health Foundation, the Virginia Beach Little League, The Barry Robinson Foundation and the Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia.
