Christmas is a time for giving and that’s just what Consumer Recovery Associates (CRA) did this Christmas season, with staff members volunteering as bell ringers for The Salvation Army’s Red Kettle Drive.
“Helping needy families have a happier Christmas has become a tradition for us at CRA,” said President Kalin Scott. “This year our company paid for four of our employees to work as volunteers for The Salvation Army’s local Tidewater Command to help them collect donations in their annual kettle drive.”
The 2010 fund drive enough funds to enable 6,200 families to shop at The Salvation Army’s Christmas Depot and provide gifts, toys, Angel Tree, bears and stockings to almost 15,000 children in the Tidewater area.
CRA volunteers spent hours manning The Salvation Army’s red kettle and ringing the traditional bell. “The weather wasn’t always ideal when our employees volunteered, but despite rain, wind, and even freezing temperatures, they kept working because they knew how important the fund drive was,” added Scott.
Almost half of the money the organization raises in The Salvation Army’s red kettle drive goes to paying bell ringers. With CRA providing four bell ringers for 32 hours, the kettle drive was able to save on salaries and raise money too.
CRA’s holds a firm belief in giving back to the community. This commitment drives the company’s contributions to The Salvation Army and other non-profits such as the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, Muscular Dystrophy Association, Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, LifeNet Health Foundation, the Virginia Beach Little League, The Barry Robinson Foundation and the Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia.
